Hamas pushes anti-Abbas meeting in Syria to coincide with Annapolis

A Hamas-led summit to be held in Damascus is planned to coincide with the US-sponsored Middle East peace conference in Annpolis later this year, Israel Radio reported on Wednesday morning. The meeting, involving all groups who oppose Fatah, was initially scheduled for the beginning of November. A senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine's General Command, Talal Naji, said that the new date will allow for more widespread documentation of decisions made during the conference. The summit, initiated by Hamas, is aimed at undermining the stance of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Several PA representatives arrived in Damascus in an effort to cancel the conference.
