Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh announced Monday his Hamas government would resign in the coming days - a formality that should clear the way for a new coalition with Fatah.
Haniyeh returned to Gaza from abroad on Monday and was greeted by fireworks and ululating women.
He said his government planned to resign in the coming days to start the process of forming the new coalition.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's aide Rafiq Hussein said that the agreement moved in the direction of the international community's demands. "We hope the international community will look at the agreement from a positive side," Husseini added.
