Work on a framework for negotiations with the United States is progressing, top Iranian security official Ali Larijani said on X/Twitter on Saturday.

"Contrary to the atmosphere being created by artificial media warfare, the formation of a structure for #negotiations is underway," Larijani wrote, without giving further details.

Larijani's message comes after Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared on Friday that Iran is prepared to resume talks with the United States, during a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan

Any negotiations would need to be "fair and equitable," Araghchi insisted.

Trump expresses interest in Iran negotiations

US President Donald Trump has also expressed interest in negotiating with Iran in recent days. "I am planning on it, yeah," Trump said when asked on Thursday about possible discussions with Tehran. "We have a lot of very big, very powerful ships sailing to Iran right now, and it would be great if we didn’t have to use them," Trump told reporters at the Kennedy Center.

Trump also stated that he had held talks with Iran in "recent days," Israel's public broadcaster KAN News reported on Friday morning. "I have had talks with them, and I intend to hold talks," he was cited as saying.
