Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon and F-35 fighter jets, supported by military helicopters, shot down several Iranian drones targeting Middle Eastern countries, the United Kingdom's Defense Ministry said in a post to X/Twitter on Sunday.
"UK Typhoons and F-35 jets, supported by Voyager and Royal Navy Merlin and Wildcat helicopters, have continued their defensive missions over the Eastern Mediteranean, Jordan, Bahrain, and the UAE," the post read.
Four RAF pilots have achieved the "ace" status due to the mission, the ministry added in a separate statement, having "aving blasted Iranian drones out of the sky during operations in the Middle East, protecting British interests, partners, and personnel in the region."
Iranian drones, missiles start fires in Gulf states
Meanwhile, Iranian drones and falling missile shrapnel started fires at the Borouge petrochemicals plant in Abu Dhabi, in a storage facility belonging to Bahrain's Bapco Energies, and at the Shuwaikh Oil Sector Complex in Kuwait.
No injuries were reported by any of the countries.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia's Defense Ministry said it intercepted an Iranian cruise missile launched towards the Gulf state on Sunday morning.
The Iranian state-owned Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting company (IRIB), claimed that the strikes come in response to attacks on its petrochemical plants in a Sunday post to X.
