The head of the UN probe into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri requested on Saturday that his mandate be extended a year, a copy of his report released by the UN office in Beirut said.
Belgian prosecutor Serge Brammertz welcomed the Lebanese government request to the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan last month for an extension of up to one year.
"Such extension would provide a sense of continuity and stability, enables progressive operations and planning, and offers assurances to staff," the report said.
