Mubarak: Syria interested in true peace

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Tuesday that Syria was interested in true peace with Israel in exchange for a full withdrawal from the Golan Heights. Mubarak told the Egyptian news agency A-Shark al-Awsat that the key to Middle East stability was preserving Syrian and Palestinian involvement in the peace process. Mubarak added that he had sent a message to US President George Bush on the eve of the Id al-Adha festival, warning him that if former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein were executed on the festival it would have negative repercussions for the entire region.
