Pope Benedict XVI arrived at Mount Nebo on Saturday morning, where the Bible said that Moses saw the Promised Land.
The pope was scheduled to deliver a speech at the site as part of his effort to reach out to Jews, Muslims and Christians during his first visit to the Middle East.
Benedict is scheduled to meet with Muslim leaders later Saturday at Amman's largest mosque - his second visit to a Muslim place of worship since becoming pope in 2005.
