By JPOST.COM STAFFPalestinian Authority national security advisor Jibril Rajoub met with jailed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti in his prison cell on Tuesday.
Rajoub stated that he viewed the recent Fatah elections as the only way to unify the ranks in the movement, and insisted the elections in the other districts be held as scheduled, according to Israel Radio.
On Friday, Barghouti won at least half of the votes in the Fatah primary elections in Ramallah, creating renewed demands for his release from jail.
In May 2004, two years after his arrest by IDF forces, Marwan Barghouti was convicted of involvement in four terrorist bombings that claimed the lives of five Israeli citizens. He was sentenced to serve five life sentences and an additional 40 years.
