Saniora briefs Saudi king on Lebanon situation

Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora briefed King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia on the latest developments in Lebanon and received assurances from the Saudi monarch of his country's support for Lebanon, Saudi officials said. Saniora, on his first trip outside Lebanon since the end of Israeli-Hizbullah fighting, met with Abdullah in the Red Sea port city of Jiddah and discussed the economic impact on Lebanon of the 34-day war, the officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. The king said Saudi Arabia remained committed in its support for Lebanon until its complete recovery from the devastation of the war, which began on July 12. Saudi Arabia has donated US$500 million (€393.3 million) to help Lebanon rebuild from the massive devastation wrought by the fighting. It has also deposited US$1 billion (€790 million) at Lebanon's central bank to support the country's war-shattered economy.
