Saudi Arabia donates $2 million in aid to Lebanon

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday gave the UN World Food Program US$2 million (€1.57 million) for food relief in Lebanon, the agency said. The Saudi donation would cover nearly a quarter of the food requirements for a three-month emergency operation, the Rome-based WFP said. Fighting between Israeli troops and Hizbullah fighters in southern Lebanon has left more than 800,000 people displaced against a backdrop of ruined infrastructure, a shortage of goods and services, and soaring food prices, the UN agency said. WFP said it was planning at least two convoys daily to southern Lebanon, and was expanding the range of its operations across Lebanon to reach as many of the displaced people as possible.
