Three US governors make unannounced trip to Iraq

The governors of three US states made an unannounced trip to Iraq, meeting with several Iraqi ministers and visiting several US military installations, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano's office said Wednesday. The trip came at the invitation of the US Defense Department, and included Democratic Gov. Brad Henry of Oklahoma and Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota. While in Baghdad and other locations in Iraq on Tuesday, the governors met with Iraqi ministers, were briefed by the commander of US troops in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, and visited several US military installations, the democratic governor's spokeswoman, Jeanine L'Ecuyer, said. Napolitano's office said the trip was not announced in advance because of security reasons and that the three governors had left Iraq and were in Kuwait Wednesday.
