Turkey's premier on Sunday held talks on the security situation in Iraq with top Iranian religious and political leaders and met with Iran's president to discuss "the most important issues in the region."
"President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the most important issues in the region and Islamic world," state-TV reported, but did not elaborate.
Iran's Vice President Parviz Davoodi and Erdogan in a separate meeting reviewed security in Iraq, state-TV reported. Each country shares more than 500 kilometers (300 miles) with Iraq.
Erdogan urged Tehran to try to solve its nuclear standoff through diplomatic channels and discussed bilateral relations, including expanding cooperation in Turkey's natural gas imports from Iran, Turkey's state-owned Anatolia news agency said Sunday.
