Two US soldiers killed in Iraq

A US soldier and a US Marine were killed during separate military operations in Iraq over the weekend, the military said Monday. The soldier from the 89th Military Police Brigade died from injuries sustained when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southeastern Baghdad at about 8 p.m. Saturday, the military said. The Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 died Sunday from wounds sustained during enemy action while operating in Anbar province, the area of western Iraq where the bulk of Sunni-Arab insurgent groups are based. The killings raised to at least 2,865 the number of US service members who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. So far this month in Iraq, 47 American service members have been killed or died.
