UK diplomat meets Haniyeh over kidnapped reporter

A senior British diplomat on Tuesday met with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to discuss the fate of a British journalist kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists. Richard Makepeace, the UK consul general in Jerusalem, requested the meeting, said a senior British diplomat, who declined to be identified under consulate rules. The diplomat said the meeting would discuss only the matter of kidnapped journalist Alan Johnston, and did not signify a break in Britain's boycott of Haniyeh's Hamas party. The two men also met last month. Johnston, a British Broadcasting Corp. correspondent, was abducted by gunmen on March 12 and has not been seen or heard from since then.
