Former MK Marina Solodkin was found dead in her hotel room in Riga, Latvia Saturday night.Solodkin was one of the founding MKs in Yisrael B'Aliya, and later joined Likud and Kadima.She leaves behind a husband and two children.Soldkin, 61, gave a speech at an anti-fascism conference in Riga Saturday, felt ill, and returned to her hotel room, where her body was found later that day.Reason of death and when her body will be returned to Israel remained unknown as of Saturday night.Solodkin was born in Moscow in 1952, and had a doctorate in economic and social science. She made aliya in 1991.As a Yisrael B'Aliya MK, Solodkin was chairwoman of the Knesset Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women, and served twice as Deputy Immigration and Absorption Minister. She left politics last December, after being put in an unrealistic spot on Kadima's list.Solodkin excelled as a parliamentarian, advocating for immigrants from the Former Soviet Union and passing significant social legislation.Among the laws Solodkin passed as an MK include requiring employers to allow workers to sit during the workday and not requiring Holocaust survivors to pay income tax on reparations they receive from Germany.Solodkin, who lived in Ashkelon, wrote three books – two in Russian and one in Hebrew.Labor leader Shelly Yacimovich expressed sorrow at the death of Solodkin on Saturday."Marina was a brilliant person, highly educated in economics, opinionated, brave and hard-working, and on multiple occasions I consulted with her on political and economic issues" Yacimovich stated."She personally helped thousands of people and was a wonderful partner," the Labor leader added, saying that Israel had lost a great parliamentarian.
