Israel will pay NIS 4 million in compensation to the family of Ben Zygier, the former Mossad man, nicknamed Prisoner X, who hung himself in his cell in Ayalon Prison in December 2010, Channel 2 reported on Tuesday.According to the television channel, the compensation package includes a stipulation that Israel will not have to admit culpability for Zygier’s death.Channel 2 said that under the deal NIS 2,400,000 will be paid to Zygier’s family this year, and NIS 1,600,000 will follow over the next four years.Details of a court document cleared for publication in February ruled that the Israel Prisons Service failed in its responsibility to protect Zygier, who was known to be emotionally distraught and in danger of harming himself.
