For years, I have traveled to Washington as part of the Yes! Israel Project with Ruth Lieberman and Sarah Paley, meeting with members of Congress and their staff to strengthen the strategic alliance between Israel and the United States. Our message is always simple and factual: a strong, secure Israel strengthens America.

But on my most recent trip, for the first time, I left worried.

In several meetings at Republican offices, I was unexpectedly asked about an online campaign targeting Christians, claiming Israel discriminates against them, and that Israel did nothing to protect Christians from being killed in Syria I was stunned. While only a handful raised the issue, the fact that multiple members independently flagged it suggested a coordinated pattern. One congressman even asked me directly to investigate further, warning of tremendous political damage should this narrative spread.

The concern is real. One member put it plainly: Should a bloc of Republican representatives be swayed by this misinformation enough to vote with Democrats against legislation that includes funding for Israel, it would not only harm the Jewish state, it would hurt America. Many security and defense bills serve core US interests as well; voting them down to not "support" Israel also weakens America strategically.

Just after hearing these concerns, I read Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s social media post highlighting a simple truth: Israel is the only country in the Middle East where Christians are safe – and the only place where that population has actually grown.

In countries across the region once considered to be the cradle of Christianity, Christian communities have been persecuted, driven out, and in some cases, massacred. Their numbers have collapsed. By contrast, Christians in Israel are protected by law with full civil rights, representation, and security.

Pro-Israel voting bloc

Christians are the largest and most influential pro-Israel voting bloc in the United States. They are certainly more influential in electoral terms than the Jewish community, with a sizable progressive population that votes for representatives and policies that are anti-Israel. If hostile foreign actors – Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, Russia, or some combination – are running coordinated bot campaigns to turn American Christians against Israel, the potential consequences are enormous.

In the main, this isn’t about older Christians, whose support is deep and who know the truth about Israel. The vulnerability lies with the younger generation, already exposed to relentless messaging about “genocide,” distorted narratives about AIPAC, and now, allegations of Christian discrimination.

The timing suddenly makes sense.

Should these lies take hold among younger Christian voters, the upcoming election cycles could be significantly impacted. And that would affect not only Israel’s security assistance, but America’s own strategic interests as well.
This is precisely why the Yes! Israel Project exists.

For years, we’ve worked to ensure that US policymakers understand that Israel is not a foreign burden but a strategic asset. Israel’s intelligence cooperation, battlefield experience, and technological innovation greatly strengthen American security. Israel stands on the front lines against the red-green jihadi alliance that seeks to destabilize the West.

In other words, a strong Israel makes America stronger, while a weakened Israel only emboldens America’s enemies.
What I witnessed in Washington was not a tidal wave, but rather an early tremor that, if ignored, can become an earthquake. The misinformation campaign that is currently targeting Christians must be exposed and countered immediately, before it reshapes political alignments in ways that will harm both nations.

This is not just about Israel’s image: It is about preserving the strategic US-Israel alliance, the result of shared values and shared security interests that underpins stability in a volatile region.

We cannot allow anonymous online manipulation to erode what generations have worked to build. Let’s ensure that truth prevails over digital deception.
