Lebanese PM, Egypt's pres. meet to discuss Syria
01/13/2006
The Lebanese prime minister and Egypt's president discussed Lebanon's differences with Syria on Thursday in the latest of a series of Arab initiatives to reduce the tension between the two neighboring states. Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora reiterated afterward that Syria should cooperate with the UN investigation into the assassination of Rafik Hariri and should stop supporting Palestinian bases in Lebanon, Egypt's Middle East News agency reported. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak did not issue a statement after the talks in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik. Last Sunday, Syrian President Bashar Assad visited Mubarak and the Saudi king, apparently seeking Arab support as he considers a request to interview him by the UN commission into the murder former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
