Rice works phones aggressively on Gaza crisis
12/30/2008
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is keeping up steady American calls for a durable and sustainable cease-fire in the Mideast, even if it cannot be brought about immediately. The State Department says that in phone calls with Israeli and Arab leaders, including Jordan's King Abdullah II, Rice pressed for a lasting solution that is not used by the radical Hamas movement to launch more attacks into Israel. Spokesman Gordon Duguid told reporters Tuesday: "She is working extremely hard to try and get both sides to agree that a cease-fire can be re-established and that that cease-fire can be fully respected."
