Crime damage up 4% despite decrease in reported crimes

Financial damage incurred due to criminal acts cost the state some NIS 14.7 billion in 2009, a four-percent increase from the previous year, according to numbers released on Tuesday by the Public Security Ministry.

According to a press release from the ministry, the rise in damage costs came "despite a 2.7 percent decrease in reported crimes" from 2008.

The final amount of NIS 14.7 billion for 2009 was some NIS 590 million more than the figure for 2008 and constituted an increase in such figures for the second consecutive year.
