Australia PM seeks to revive Malaysia asylum deal

CANBERRA - Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Monday that her government would try to revive an asylum swap deal with Malaysia rejected by the country's High Court.
"Malaysia offered the best answer to the issue of asylum seekers and people smuggling then. It offers the best answer now," Gillard told reporters at Australia's parliament, adding her minority government would try to amend the country's migration laws to overcome the High Court ruling.Gillard, in the top job for just over a year, has seen her popularity plunge in opinion polls and has come under further pressure after the court blocked her plan to send asylum seekers to Malaysia.
