Report: US urging countries to to reduce Iran oil imports
US officials are urging countries that import a great deal of oil from Iran to significantly cut down their crude purchases, The Wall Street Journal quoted US government sources as saying on Thursday.

The move is part of a concerted effort to pressure Iran over its nuclear program which also includes US sanctions levied against Iran's Central Bank and a preliminary European Union agreement to embargo Iranian oil imports.

According to the report, the US is concerned that an oil embargo will drive up the prices of energy and therefore may also give a number of states temporary exceptions to lessening their supply of Iranian crude.
