Egypt foils attempt to smuggle drugs into Israel
Egyptian border guards foiled an attempt by a group of Bedouin tribesmen to smuggle drugs into Israel on Thursday, a senior security official said. The guards exchanged gunfire with the group, arresting one man and seizing about 360 kilograms (800 pounds) of hashish and several automatic weapons, said Brig. Gen. Adel Fawzi, of the North Sinai police. Four other Bedouins fled after clashing with guards in the central Sinai region, Fawzi said. It was not immediately clear if the four crossed into Israel or remained in Egypt.
