Annan asks to extend UNIFIL mission by one month

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan issued a report on Monday asking that the mandate of the UN mission along the Blue Line be extended for another month after its current expiration date of July 31. Lebanon had asked that the mission be extended by six months, but Annan said in the report that because of the violence, "a return to the status quo ante does not appear feasible."
