Eucalyptus Park in Beit Shean Inaugurated
The new Eucalyptus Park in the city of Beit Shean was inaugurated at a happy and colorful family event attended by thousands of the city’s residents.
Eucalyptus Park in Beit Shean was inaugurated on July 2 at a festive event attended by thousands of the city's residents. The park, which covers an area of more than 100 dunams (25 acres), was developed with support from friends of KKL Switzerland and has footpaths, cycling trails, unique playground equipment for children, green lawns, tended gardens and an abundance of shaded picnic areas. The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Beit Shean, Mr. Refael Ben-Shitrit, KKL-JNF Co-Chairman Mr. Eli Aflalo and KKL-JNF envoy to Switzerland Mr. Yishai Haramati.
The fountain with its brilliant sound and light show is clearly the pride of the new park. When the children of Beit Shean see the water jets jumping up in the fountain, they do not hesitate for a moment. They take off their clothes and jump right in. In a region as hot as the Beit Shean Valley, there is no better way to cool off on a sweltering summer day.
“The urban park in Beit Shean is changing the recreation and leisure culture here, and it is a green lung in the heart of the city,” said the Mayor of Beit Shean, Mr. Refael Ben-Shitrit. “This is one of the most significant projects developed here in the last few years, where the residents can enjoy a green expanse with lots of water, sounds and lights, shady picnic areas and great playground facilities. It is an urban center for recreation, nature and views.”
KKL-JNF Co-Chairman Mr. Eli Aflalo was thrilled to see the next generation, the children, who were playing in the park. “There is nothing more beautiful to see,” he said, “and you, the residents of Beit Shean, deserve a park like this, which can make a change in the city.”
Indeed, since the park was opened to the public a few months ago, it has begun to create a change in the leisure culture of the local residents. Families from all over the city spend time in the extraordinary park, and the children have a beautiful place where they can have fun instead of roaming the streets.
