India PM voices concerns to Bush over nuclear deal
12/21/2006
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday told US President George W. Bush that New Delhi has "some concerns" about legislation signed by the American leader this week facilitating a nuclear cooperation deal between the two countries. Singh expressed his view when Bush telephoned him in a call that lasted about 5 minutes, Singh's office said in a statement. "The prime minister said India still has some concerns, though many have already been addressed in the president's signing statement," it said. On Monday, Bush signed a law allowing US agencies to ship nuclear fuel and technology to India. The legislation, which reverses 30 years of US atomic policy, was a key step toward implementing the July 18 nuclear cooperation framework signed by the two leaders.
