Bill seeks to save kids left in cars
New legislation seeks to prevent the deaths of children who were forgotten in cars, a phenomenon that occurred several times this year. The proposal by Knesset Committee for Children’s Rights chairwoman Yifat Shasha-Biton (Kulanu) states that preschools and daycare centers for children aged 0-6 – private or state-run – must send a message to a parent if his or her child does not arrive within an hour after the school day has begun. Thus, the parent may be reminded to check his or her car to make sure the child wasn’t left behind. The bill will go to a vote in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation on Sunday.
