Justice Yoram Danziger announces early retirement in February 2018

Danziger has served on the court and been a strong voice for its liberal wing since 2007 and was due to continue to serve until 2023.
Supreme Court Justice Yoram Danziger on Tuesday abruptly announced that he will retire five years early, in February of 2018.

Danziger has served on the court and been a strong voice for its liberal wing since 2007 and was due to continue to serve until 2023.

Despite having been the source of attacks on the right and some years ago for alleged connections to a municipal corruption scandal, Danziger said his early retirement was purely due to personal reasons.

His retirement reopens the appointment process for the Supreme Court after four new candidates were appointed only three weeks ago, potentially shifting the court more to the Right politically. It was unclear of he would be replaced during current Supreme Court President Miriam Naor's term, which ends in October, or under her designated successor, Justice Esther Hayot.
