Israel's trade with 10 Eastern European countries in the three years since they joined the European Union has more than doubled from $950 million in 2003 (the year before the 10 countries joined the EU) to some $1.8 billion in 2006, according to research conducted by the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce. The research also indicated that Israeli trade with the 15 original EU members has grown some 15% in the same period, from $16.8b. in 2003 to $22.6b. in 2006. The FICC also noted that trade with the 10 new members of the EU is expected to increase 16% in 2007 to $2.1b.
