Olmert lightens ATM tariff regulations

Finance Minister Ehud Olmert has removed regulatory oversight on the amount that banks can charge for transactions carried out at automatic teller machines located more than 500 meters from their branches, the Bank of Israel said Wednesday. However, the charge for withdrawing cash from ATMs close to the branches will remain at NIS 1.21. The Central Bank requested the move, which is designed to increase the number of ATMs in areas with few branches due to the lack of economic viability.
