'PM, Abbas write document of principles' staff and Herb Keinon
Ma'an report says bi-national J'lem, settlement dismantling among main points.
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday denied having formulated a statement of principles with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Israel Radio reported. On Tuesday, A senior Palestinian source told Israel Radio that Olmert and Abbas formulated a statement of principles ahead of the Middle East peace meeting hosted by the US and planned to take place in November. The statement was as yet unsigned, the station said, but the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem issued an unequivocal denial of the document, saying that the PMO knows nothing about it, and that no Israeli official was involved in drawing it up. Independent Palestinian news Agency Ma'an reported, nevertheless, that the statement included eight principles, which included:
  • Israeli military withdrawal from the West Bank
  • Dismantling West Bank settlements
  • A solution agreed by both sides for Palestinian refugees
  • Jerusalem would become the capital of both Israelis and Palestinians, and control of its Palestinian side would be given to the future Palestinian state
  • Halting all Palestinian terror activity against Israel The veracity of Ma'an's report could not be ascertained.
