Jerusalem police on Wednesday detained the head of the Palestinian religious court in the West Bank for entering the city without a proper permit for the fourth straight time, police said. Taisir Tamimi, 52, of the West Bank city of Hebron, was taken in for questioning near the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. He was escorted out of the city after being questioned by police and posting NIS 3,000 bail. Tamimi told police that he came to Jerusalem to pray at the Temple Mount even though he knew he did not have a permit to enter Israel, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said. The senior Palestinian judge had previously been detained for entering Jerusalem without a proper permit back in March. Police said that they plan to press charges against him in the coming days.
