"A person who is built up by honor, can also be destroyed by honor," said Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto in his last talk. "Man's biggest problem is his desire for honor, his ego."

Rabbi Pinto explained: "The best thing for a person is that when he is honored, it doesn’t go to his head, and when he isn’t honored, it doesn’t crush him. When a person doesn’t let himself be influenced by honor and his ego, his success in life is assured. A person whose self-esteem is driven by honor, his self-esteem can also be destroyed by honor.

"Most of a person's daily decisions stem from his desire for honor," Rabbi Pinto added in his talk, "and they are swayed by his feelings and emotions. It is a very dangerous thing. If honor and emotions motivate a person's most important decisions, that will cause him to make big mistakes."

"There are those who are busy all day long thinking, 'What did they say about me?’, ‘What did they think of me?’, “Why did they say that about me?’, “Why did they think that of me?’ It all boils down to honor. That person is behaving impulsively instead of intelligently. He will have a pathetic life."

"A person must remove such thoughts, and disconnect himself from his ego, from seeking honor, and from worrying all the time what everyone is thinking and saying about him. He should only focus on the merits of anything he is about to do, and his yardstick should only be if it is intelligent and sensible." Watch his full words.
