Bnei Hasharon falls 95-80 to Gilboa

Six days after defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv at Nokia Arena, Bnei Hasharon was humbled by Hapoel Gilboa/Galil on Saturday night, losing 95-80 in Herzliya.
Bnei Hasharon got the game off to a quick start, but Gilboa pulled ahead in the third period on the way to its third straight BSL victory, improving its record to 5-3, the same as Bnei Hasharon.
Dan Shamir’s team began Saturday’s encounter well enough, leading 17-6 after a Ron Steele three-pointer.
However, Gilboa closed to within four points (21-17) by the end of the first quarter and led 44-43 at the break.
The second half was dominated by the visitors, who outscored Bnei Hasharon 51-37, holding the lead throughout the third and fourth periods.
Gal Mekel had his best game of the season for the reigning champion, registerin 28 points and seven assists.
Tyler Wilkerson and Warren Carter added 18 and 15 points, respectively, for the winners, with Lee Nailon scoring 19 points for Bnei Hasharon, which got zero points in seven minutes from debutant Maceo Baston.
On Sunday, Hapoel Jerusalem – which has won four consecutive league games – goes to Hapoel Holon, while Barak Netanya hosts Ironi Ashkelon.
Maccabi Haifa’s game against Maccabi Rishon Lezion at Nesher was postponed following the fire in the Carmel.
On Monday, Maccabi Tel Aviv will be expecting to rebound from last week’s loss to Bnei Hasharon when it visits Maccabi Ashdod, which has gotten its first ever BSL season off to an impressive start, winning its last three games.
