Just months after considering a move away from Liverpool, it now seems Yossi Benayoun will be handed a new contract at Anfield following his superb performances for the Reds in recent months. The Israel captain was frustrated at not being able to hold down a regular place in the Liverpool lineup at the start of the season, but in the last few months has played a key role in the side, scoring crucial goals for the team in both the Champions League and Premier League. Benayoun has played especially well in the absence of the injured Steven Gerrard and manager Rafa Benitez is hoping to reward him with a contract extension. "I think if he is happy, then he will be okay here. Yossi now is playing, so I'm sure he is happy. We've had no real approaches for him," Benitez told British newspaper The Independent. "Now he is playing more games, has more confidence and you can see the quality that he has. I have to talk to him [about a new contract] but he is contracted for another two years."
