One of the lesser-known athletes in the delegation, Taekwondo fighter Bat El Gaterer could well return to Israel with a medal. With just 16 competitors in each Taekwondo Olympic event, Gaterer will secure herself a medal with just three victories in Beijing. The 20-year-old, will, however, be facing fierce competition in China and is not one of Israel's medal favorites. Israel sent four fighters to the European Olympic qualification tournament in Turkey earlier this year and it was a surprise to all involved that the relatively inexperienced Gaterer was the one fighter who managed to finish among the top three in her event and book an Olympic berth. Gaterer won the Holland and German Opens this year and will be the second Israeli to take part in an Olympic Taekwondo event, following in the footsteps of Maya Arusi, who competed in the Athens Games.
