Olympic sharpshooter Guy Starik won a silver medal in the 50-meter rifle prone at the ISSF World Cup in Rifle and Pistol in Munich on Friday.
Starik, the reigning European champion, scored 701.5 points and trailed the winner, Hungary's Peter Sidi, by 1.3 points. They entered the final tied with 598 points.
The medal was Starik's third straight at a World Cup event, following a silver three weeks ago in Resende, Brazil, and a bronze at Guangzhou, China, in March.
Starik, who is currently ranked third in the world, gained some ground on the top-ranked Sergei Martynov of Belarus, who placed 20th with 593 points. The Israeli champ, who plans to compete at his fourth Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing, is scheduled to continue from Germany to Italy for another World Cup stop next weekend in Milan.
Among the other Israelis in the 50-m rifle prone competition, Doron Egozi came in 19th with 594 points and Vladimir Pivner scored 590, good for 45th out of the 70 riflemen.
Alex Danilov came in 35th in the 10-m air pistol with 577 points - four off of a spot in the final.
