The man, Hamdan Hamdan, is alleged to have been aware that the agent he was in contact with was Lebanese, and to have requested to be given security missions in Israel.

The two officers had recently been deployed by the Sharet police station in the Ayalon District as part of an operation targeting drug-dealing hubs in the southern part of the city.

The wounded man was evacuated in serious condition to Wolfson Medical Center, where medical teams were forced to pronounce his death.

Separately on Tuesday, Border Police announced that it had arrested three people suspected of being involved in terrorism during overnight operations in the West Bank village of Bir Neballa.

Among the illegal weapons and ammunition seized were several which are suspected to have been stolen from the IDF, the police stated.

Police accuse the suspect of using malware to spy on hundreds of computer users, including recording victims in their homes and workplaces, storing nude captured images of underage victims, and more.

The exercise, during which all battalions in the division were mobilized, is expected to continue until the afternoon. 

Hamed was killed on Wednesday in a joint ISA, IDF and Israel Police operation involving a strike in the central Gaza Strip, according to the security agencies.
