All three were civilians, and their deaths brought to 29 the number of people killed since mid-Aug in what now stands as the worst year on record for California wildfires in terms of acreage burned.

At least 10 people have died so far in the forest fires, which blazed across the area Monday.

Sonoma County bore the brunt of the fatalities, with seven fire-related deaths confirmed there, according to the sheriff's department.
