If you always say you'd like to try a new and adventurous experience, how does an all expenses paid, 1000-mile voyage from Utah to Arizona sound to you? This summer, it might just be your chance to actually do something. Utah's Moab Desert, which offers a variety of activities such as hiking, off-road trails, rappelling, whitewater rafting and horseback riding, will serve as the staging ground for Phillip Morris's international advertising campaign: the Marlboro Adventure Team (MAT). At the 11th annual desert extravaganza in the spirit of the rugged cowboy advertisements, Marlboro invites men and women from all around the globe to play cowboy at the company's expense. Participants will undertake a 10-day adventure from the Colorado River to the deserts of Arizona, where they'll be tested against the forces of nature. Triwaks, the public relations company for Philip Morris in Israel, and David Maninger of Geo-Teva organized an upscale outdoor expedition through scenic pathways in the Judean Desert, where a group of media people mixed with diverse celebrities launched the Israeli applicants' registration for the desert event. Joining this group of urban "cowboy wannabees," I had the chance to taste some of the excitement awaiting the applicants of the 2006 MAT. The rough trail began near Kibbutz Kalya at the northern tip of the Dead Sea, as we powered our way up the mountains riding ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles), galloped on horses on the dunes next to the Ogg riverbed, navigated throughout amazing views of nature reserves and lumbered through water courses on 4X4 jeeps. The wilderness of the Judean Desert, the breathtaking views of the Dead Sea and the incredible rock formations of the Moab Mountains in the east were the perfect background for the trail. Israeli participants of the MAT will compete for two tickets to the Marlboro country in the Moab Desert - one of the top destinations for outdoor recreation. So, if local terrains aren't exactly pushing your adrenaline to its limits and flying halfway around the world appeals to you, the registration for the Marlboro Adventure Team 2006 welcomes everyone above the age of 18 to be an applicant. Forms can be found in most entertainment centers, or by calling 1-800-511-555. Forms must be sent by May 11. By the end of May, 150 lucky applicants will be selected for the final exercise and training that will take place during the month of July. The two best candidates will represent Israel in the international MAT 2006 in Utah in September.
