Cafe Kadosh was opened in Jerusalem in 1967 by Meir Kadosh, who has since passed the business on to his son, Itzik, and Itzik’s wife, Keren, who currently run both the regular kitchen and the pastry kitchen upstairs. The cafe is designed in a neat, classic European style that makes for a decidedly old-school atmosphere, and, as Keren says, is a “warm, crowded, homey place.”

When it comes to the food, Kadosh offers a kosher dairy menu that includes a variety of fresh pasta dishes, fresh and smoked fish, quiches, lasagnas, salads, sandwiches, baked goods and desserts. What really sets the place apart is that everything is made in-house, from the pasta to the bread to the pastries.
A few years ago, the place was renovated and enlarged while maintaining the existing atmosphere and ambiance, part of an ongoing effort to stay current and keep up with the always-growing base of loyal customers. And indeed, in its 40+ years of existence, Kadosh has made its way into the pantheon of mythological Jerusalem cafes, alongside many establishments that have since folded in the wake of the onslaught of the city’s Aromas and Cafe Hillel’s.
