2 Algerians set themselves on fire

Local officials say one man set himself on fire in Algeria and another attempted to do the same.
The desperate acts Monday appeared to be influenced by incidents in Tunisia, where a 26-year-old who set himself on fire inspired weeks of protests that forced out the longtime president.
Algeria has seen reported cases of self-immolation in seven towns since Saturday, two of them Monday.
A local official in Ghardaia says a man suffering a chronic illness set himself on fire over a dispute over medical costs. He was hospitalized with burns.
A local security official in Mascara says passersby stopped a fish monger who had poured gasoline on himself and tried to set himself alight.
Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity out of security concerns.
