Labor MK Binymain Ben-Eliezer said the government must increase the defense budget in light of the recent developments in the Middle East, Army Radio reported Wednesday.

The Finance and Defense Ministries have been at loggerheads over the defense budget, with Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz insisting on budget cuts while allowing for gradual growth as per the Brodet Report.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak called on Tuesday for a 0.9% increase in the budget deficit to help meet the country's needs.
