LONDON - A British citizen was killed and another kidnapped on Sunday at a beach resort in Kenya near the border with Somalia, Britain's Foreign Office said.

The two Britons were attacked at the resort north of Lamu, a small island off the Kenyan coast, it said, without adding further details.

Following the attack the Foreign Office updated its advice for travelers to Kenya, advising against all but essential travel to areas within 30 km of Kenya's border with Somalia.

It noted there have been previous attacks by Somalia militia into Kenya. Three aid workers were kidnapped in July 2009, and two western nuns in November 2008, it added.
