Deputy Speaker of the Knesset Danny Danon warned The Quartet on the Middle East Monday not to attach any conditions for the renewal of direct negotiations.

Danon said "I call on the Israeli Government to stand by its well established policy and strongly reject any and all preconditions linked to beginning direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority."

"The Quartet's announcement would be highly detrimental to all ongoing efforts aimed at resolving this conflict," Danon continued.

Danon stated that "this unwarranted meddling will only allow the Palestinians to further avoid direct talks with Israel while hiding behind these preconditions. This is all just another ploy to avoid meaningful peace negotiations and calls into question their true intentions and goals. "
