EU calls probe into Gaza raid 'a step forward'

BRUSSELS  — Israel's probe into the raid on the flotilla trying to break the blockade of Gaza is "a step forward" said EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on Wednesday.
Ashton told European lawmakers on Wednesday that the May 31 naval attack in which nine unarmed activists were killed was "unacceptable."
She said that the EU will follow the work of the internal panel "before drawing further conclusions."
Israel has rejected calls for an international inquiry but allowed two foreign observers to participate.
The EU has long called for an end to the blockade. But Ashton says "the political parameters have changed; the circumstances now are different."
