EU's Mogherini proposes Italian as EU Middle East envoy, Italy says

BRUSSELS - The EU's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has proposed an Italian diplomat as the bloc's special representative to the Middle East, Italy's foreign minister said on Monday.
"Federica Mogherini proposed as EU representative for the Middle East Mr. Gentilini, who is a very valiant Italian diplomat," Italy's Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni told reporters.
He said the role "has nothing to do with the role of Tony Blair. We did not discuss that," referring to the former British prime minister who is envoy for the Middle East Quartet.
