Education system opens school day by commemorating Shimon Peres

Educational institutions on Wednesday will open the school day by marking the contributions and work of former President Shimon Peres, as directed by Education Minister Naftali Bennett.
Schools around the country will dedicate the first hour of studies discussing the contributions of Peres to the State and on his numerous roles as an Israeli statesman.
"Shimon Peres is an entire education system of one man.  Peres was my education minister, the man with whom I consulted, from which I learned, despite the generation gap between us, and perhaps because of this," Bennett said on Wednesday.
“He was a man of most practical vision, a security man who strove for peace, a courageous leader who represented the State of Israel with pride with every fiber of his being and everywhere on the globe,” he eulogized.
Bennett said he had met with Peres often in recent years, hearing of the former president's vision for the country as a "light to the world, exporting to the world our most powerful product: the Jewish mind."
The education minister said he was "very moved" when Peres agreed to join the public campaign to promote sciences in Israel. "He readily agreed, and as always - did it in his own unique way," Bennett said.
The education ministry formulated appropriate lesson plans for all grade levels from elementary through high schools.  During the next few days the lesson plans will be updated and other educational materials will be made available to teachers to further commemorate Peres.
