Responding to Arye Deri's statement that he has decided to run for office, MK Arye Eldad (National Union) said that he supports a bill that would prevent any civilian from running for office or holding a ministerial position who was convicted or served at least one year of prison time, Israel Radio reported Thursday.
Eldad told Israel Radio that despite the desire to avoid retroactive legislation, the law is required for reasons of common sense. Eldad said that the political system cannot become corrupted by personalities on the left or right side of the political spectrum.
