France: No diplomatic ties with North Korea anytime soon

France No diplomatic ti

French President Nicolas Sarkozy's special envoy to North Korea said Wednesday that he hopes France will be able to open a new page in relations with Pyongyang but that diplomatic relations will not be established for the time being. Jack Lang, a former culture minister and lawmaker, said he hoped France will be able to intensify its cooperation with North Korea, particularly in the field of culture and French-language instruction. Sarkozy named Lang in October on a mission to see how France could help end the standoff over North Korea's nuclear program. The lack of relations between the two countries has hindered a more active French role. Lang spoke Wednesday before an open hearing of the French National Assembly's commission on foreign affairs.
